shandong jiaotong university, situated in jinan , the city of springs, sandong province ,began to take shape in1956. in 1958,the school was named shandong communications college , which was ,with approval of the ministry of education, renamed shandong jiaotong university in the march of 2002 .this university is a multi-discipline higher education institution mainly intended for bs degree graduates , with the majors of various communications categories as its owe characteristics. its guideline is "based on shantong ,geared to the whole country , devoted to distinctive features".
   the campus now covers more than 420 mu , with the school buildings and facilities area of 193,000 square meters . the university has 7,688 full -time students and 776 staff members .among its academics, there is 1 leading members of the key discipline at ministerial level ,1tans-century academic leading member at the ministerial level ,2tans -century academic backbone member at the ministerial level ,2 academic backbone members at the provincial level,and10 receivers of special government subsidy granted by the state council .the university's fixed assets amount to 138.6 million yuan ,of which 334 million is teaching equipment .its library area is 21,000 square meters ,with a collection of 615,000 volumes.
   the university consists of automobile engineering department , civil engineering department ,engineering machinery department ,information engineering department ,transportation engineering department ,management science department ,economics department ,foreign department ,humanities department ,northern international college ,further education college basic course teaching section, physical education section ,social sciences teaching section ,and modern education center .the university offers 37 bachelor and associate degree specialties ,such as transportation ,transportation engineering ,civil engineering ,machinery designing & automation, computer science & technology ,and english . these specialties involve such 6 disciplines as engineering , science ,management ,economics , law, and arts . the automobile applied technology is among the top -ranked specialties of the ministry of communications .the civil architecture testing technology , the engineering machinery applied technology ,the logistic management are among the reform-oriented experimental major fields of study at the ministerial level .the automobile testing technology laboratory and the engineering machinery electro-hydraulic control laboratory are the major ones of the ministry of communications. moreover, the university is one of the nation's teachers training bases.
   shandong jiaotong university provides advanced and sophisticated facilities for teaching and scientific research. all the rooms in the 25,000-square-meter teaching buildings have access to the internet. the university is the fist to have the ecological library in china. and it has 55 teaching and scientific research labs, 12 campus fieldwork bases ,and 54 outside field-trip bases . its audio-visual reading rooms, cad rooms, electronic reading rooms, language laboratories,and anther well-equipped facilities have made it possible to utilize modern teaching means in the classroom.
